Acting Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Head Robert Patterson testified at a hearing on the DEA’s role in combating the opioid epidemic. Subcommittee members pressed Mr. Patterson on ways the department could expedite the investigation process against distributors involved in suspicious opioid orders and on the probe into alleged pill dumping in West Virginia. Representative Buddy Carter (R-GA), the only pharmacist serving in Congress, urged Mr. Patterson to look into the doctors who overprescribe these drugs and create better systems to help pharmacists detect fraudulent prescriptions. close
