Outgoing Secretary of State Rex Tillerson delivered brief farewell remarks to his staff at the State Department. He noted that Washington, D.C. could be a “very mean-spirited town” and urged his staff to choose the person they wanted to be and to continue to work together to help solve the world’s greatest challenges. Mr. Tillerson was fired by President Trump on March 13, 2018, while he was returning to D.C. from his first official trip to Africa. He served as secretary of state for 14 months. close
