The National Prevention Science Coalition hosted a briefing on Capitol Hill to address gun violence prevention and school safety. The briefing came one day before the student-led “March for Our Lives” rally in Washington, D.C, in response to the February 14, 2018, school shooting in Parkland, Florida, and other school shootings since the 1999 high school shooting in Columbine, Colorado. Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Lauren Hogg gave a first-hand account of the mass shooting that killed 17 people. She demanded action against gun violence and said schools should force students to take mental health education classes. Other speakers included professors, physicians as well as gun legislation and youth violence prevention experts. close
