President Trump spoke about the federal spending bill that funds the government through September 30, 2018, thus avoiding a government shutdown. He said he signed it “as a matter of national security” but that he did not like doing so and would never again sign a bill of a similar size. The legislation in print is over 2,000 pages long. The president cited funding for defense and the military as elements in the bill which he supported, but said he was disappointed in other parts which he said were included to gain Democratic support. close
