The music of Appalachia is a mix of African and European cultures. Warren Wilson College collected a decade of interviews and live performances during the 1960s and '70s to preserve the sounds of Appalachian music. David Holt began the college’s Mountain Music Archives and explained the importance of preserving the history of music. Professors Kevin Kehrberg and Phil Jamison talked about how students use the collection today to continue the mountain music culture.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2018 LCV Cities Tour” in Asheville, North Carolina, from March 17-23 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Charter cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
