F. Scott Fitzgerald, author of The Great Gatsby, visited the Grove Park Inn during the summers of 1935 and 1936. He came to Asheville to overcome an addiction to gin and find inspiration for his stagnant writing career. Tracey Johnston-Crum, director of public relations, recounted Fitzgerald’s escapades around the hotel and gave a tour of one of the rooms he stayed in.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2018 LCV Cities Tour” in Asheville, North Carolina, from March 17-23 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Charter cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
