California Governor Jerry Brown (D) answered reporters' questions at the National Press Club on a range of issues, including immigration and border security, climate policy, and the Trump administration. Governor Brown responded to a tweet from the president accusing him of “not looking for safety and security” along the border. The governor said that California was not interfering with federal law enforcement and was actively trying to stop drug smuggling, human trafficking and illegal gun trade, but that “trying to catch some desperate mothers and children, or unaccompanied minors coming from Central America, that sounds like something else.” Governor Brown said that the immigration issue had become political and that some politicians and media outlets were acting disingenuously by conflating immigrants with crime. close
