Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) spoke to reporters following a closed-door, all-senators briefing on Syria with Defense Secretary James Mattis and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair General Joseph Dunford. Senator Graham said, “Everything in that briefing made me more worried, not less,” and that while he supports the same goals as the Trump administration, he does not believe that its current strategy would achieve those goals. “If we stay on the course that we’re on now, Syria will fall into the hands of the Russians, the Iranians, and Assad, which will be a nightmare for Israel, and the region as a whole, and that our destruction-of-ISIS strategy is not really practical,” said Senator Graham. close
