Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) spoke to reporters following a closed-door, all-senators briefing on Syria with Defense Secretary James Mattis and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair General Joseph Dunford. He said he was pleased with the meeting and has a lot of confidence in Secretary Mattis and General Dunford. “I think the administration’s plans are to complete the efforts against ISIS and to not be involved,” he said. The senator said that once Russia came in to guarantee that chemical weapons would not be utilized, their position in the region and the future of Syria was solidified. “Syria is Russia’s and Iran’s now. They will be determining the future,” said Senator Corker. close
