U.S. House of Representatives members debated an amendment to the fiscal year 1994 Department of Labor and Health and Human Services spending bill that would prevent federal funds from being used to provide abortion services for poor women. The debate was marked by strong feelings concerning the abortion issue on both sides of the aisle, including a move to have Representative Henry Hyde’s(R-IL) words taken down concerning Representative Cardiss Collins'(D-IL) district. The amendment was passed in a vote of 255-178. close
