Old Live Oak Cemetery The Old Live Oak Cemetery, founded in 1829, is the final resting place of many well-known Alabamians including the state’s only Vice President William Rufus King, who also named the city of Selma. Historian Gery Anderson visited the final resting places of three members of Congress, including the first African American from Alabama, and the first woman elected to the state’s legislature.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2018 LCV Cities Tour” in Selma, Alabama, from April 21-27 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Charter cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
