Defense Secretary James Mattis and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair General Joseph Dunford testified before a Senate Appropriations subcommittee on President Trump’s fiscal year 2019 budget request. Among the issues discussed was the president’s decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear agreement. Secretary Mattis said that it could not be affirmed that Iran was living up to the agreement and vowed that the U.S. would continue to work with its allies to prevent the country from acquiring a nuclear weapon. The secretary also expressed optimism in the upcoming U.S.-North Korea talks. close
