The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee held a hearing on preparations for the 2020 Census. The committee agreed to subpoena Acting Assistant Attorney General John Gore, who was scheduled to testify but did not attend. Witnesses included Census Bureau Acting Director Ron Jarmin, Commerce Department Policy and Strategic Planning Director Earl Comstock and Government Accountability Office (GAO) officials. Throughout the hearing, Democratic members voiced their opposition to the Trump administration’s inclusion of a citizenship question in the 2020 census, saying it would depress the count among non-citizens. close
