In the 1960s, Martin Luther King, Jr. often visited the Jackson family home in Selma, Alabama. It was in the family’s living room where he watched President Johnson urge Congress to pass the Voting Rights Act. Owner Jawana Jackson gave a tour of her childhood home where King planned the Selma to Montgomery March.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2018 LCV Cities Tour” in Selma, Alabama, from April 21-27 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Charter cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
