The House approved two bills. One provides $5.2 billion to private health care programs for veterans. The other makes it a federal crime to assault a local or state law enforcement officer. Members also began debate on the farm bill, which sets farm subsidies and nutrition programs. The bill would require recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, formerly known as “food stamps,” to work at least 20 hours per week. close
