Senators Schatz and Lankford on Net Neutrality Senator Schatz (D-HI) spoke on the chamber floor in support of a resolution maintaining Obama administration net neutrality rules, while Senator James Lankford (R-OK) supported the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) decision to repeal them. Those rules regulated the internet like a public utility and prohibited internet service providers from blocking or charging websites for higher quality delivery to consumers. The repeal was to take effect on June 11.

The Senate later voted 52-47 to reinstate net neutrality. close
