The Battle of New Orleans was the last ground battle of the War of 1812. Chalmette Battlefield National Park Service Guide Chad Hoing explained why the battle was such a devastating loss for British troops and how the Battle helped launch the political career of Andrew Jackson.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2018 LCV Cities Tour” in New Orleans, Louisiana, from May 19-25, to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Cox Communications cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
