In 1998, the Academy Award-winning World War II film Saving Private Ryan was released in theaters. The movie portrayed the 1944 D-Day invasion of Normandy and the mission to find a soldier behind enemy lines. At a symposium held at the National World War II Museum to mark the 20th anniversary of the film’s release, historians explored and contrasted other D-Day films and talked about the directors' process of creating them. close
