Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senator Edward Markey (D-MA) spoke out on the chamber floor against the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) repeal of net neutrality rules. Net neutrality refers to Obama administration rules regulating the internet like a public utility and prohibiting internet service providers from blocking or charging websites for higher quality delivery to consumers. The Republican-led FCC voted to replace net neutrality with Federal Trade Commission regulation, effective June 11, 2018. The two senators called for a vote on the House floor of the Senate-passed resolution to block the repeal. Before the senators' remarks, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell praised the rollback of the rules. close
