Following their weekly caucus luncheon, Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) and other members of Senate Democratic leadership spoke to reporters. They called on President Trump to end the policy of separating immigrant children from their parents after crossing the southern border into the U.S. Senator Schumer said their request did not require congressional action and that the president could do it himself. Senator Mazie Hirono (HI), herself an immigrant from Japan, cited the motivations and dreams of immigrants who come to the U.S. and called on the president to “have a heart, for a change.” She continued, “Take the goddamn pen of yours and do away with this horrendous inhumane policy of yours that rips children from the arms of their parents.” close
