The heads of T-Mobile and Sprint testified before a Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the proposed merger that would form the country’s second largest wireless carrier. They talked about how the deal would affect the development of 5G technology, the fifth- or next-generation data network that aims to increase the capabilities of smartphones, self-driving cars, and other technologies. Other witnesses included representatives of consumer advocacy groups who expressed their concerns over the merger’s impact on competition and prices.
