A group of Republican senators, speaking on the chamber floor, criticized President Trump’s recent decision to impose tariffs on certain steel and aluminum imports. They said the president “abused” his authority by calling the import of Canadian steel a national security threat. Foreign Relations Committee Chair Bob Corker (R-TN) sponsored a motion regarding Congress’s role in tariff policy, part of a motion to appoint conferees for several fiscal year 2019 federal spending bills. close
