Built from 1974-1977, the Trans-Alaska Pipeline runs 800 miles from the state’s North Slope to Valdez and has since funneled close to 17 billion barrels of oil. Dermot Cole shared the history of the pipeline and explained how it changed the state of Alaska.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made stops in their “2018 LCV Cities Tour” in Juneau, Fairbanks, and Anchorage, Alaska, from June 17-28, to feature the history and literary life of the communities. Working with the GCI cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
