University of Alaska-Anchorage Special Collections, 1964 Earthquake
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made stops in their “2018 LCV Cities Tour” in Juneau, Fairbanks, and Anchorage, Alaska, from June 17-28, to feature the history and literary life of the communities. Working with the GCI cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2.

On March 27, 1964, a 9.2 magnitude earthquake struck Alaska, the most powerful earthquake in North America. Arlene Schmuland, head of University of Alaska-Anchorage Special Collections, featured some images taken in the aftermath of the earthquake and shared letters and diaries written by the victims.
