On November 23, 1849, Doctor George Parkman, one of the wealthiest men in Boston, disappeared. He was last seen visiting his alma mater, Harvard Medical School. Paul Collins, an English professor who specializes in books about nineteenth century crimes, discussed his latest effort: Blood & Ivy: The 1849 Murder That Scandalized Harvard. Mr. Collins detailed an investigation conducted by the suspect’s medical school colleagues, using the new field of forensic science, to locate the victim in a building already full of dead bodies. close
