FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb and NIH Director Francis Collins testified on the Cancer Moonshot initiative and other medical innovation as implemented under the 21st Century Cures Act. Both witnesses talked about the status of various research projects being conducted under the Cancer Moonshot banner, and about the status and future of other medical research efforts, including those aimed at combating Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Also discussed were changes in clinical trial requirements administered by the FDA mandated by the 2016 Cures law and the ways those changes would speed research into rare and hard-to-treat diseases. close
