She was a member of the Merchant Marine and Fisheries and the Appropriations Committees. Ms. Bentley talked about her career as a Baltimore Sun reporter covering maritime news, and her appointment as chair of the Federal Maritime Commission which made her the highest-ranking woman in the Nixon administration. A second conversation was planned, but the former congresswoman died in August 2016, just months after this was recorded by the U.S. House of Representatives Office of the Historian.
