Maritime historian and documentary filmmaker Kevin Duffus talked about his book, Into the Burning Sea - The 1918 Mirlo Rescue. Mr. Duffus used images and animation to describe the seven-hour rescue mission led by six U.S. coast guardsmen after German submarine U-117 torpedoed a British fuel tanker off the North Carolina coast. This event was part of a day-long symposium at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras, North Carolina marking the 100th anniversary of the World War I German U-Boat campaign on the Atlantic coast. close
