The Washington Institute for Near East Policy hosted a discussion on U.S.-Turkey relations amid escalating tensions between the two countries. Panelists discussed the continued detention of American pastor Andrew Brunson, which led to the Trump administration imposing sanctions against Turkey, and the subsequent retaliatory sanctions levied against the U.S. They also discussed the domestic political issues facing Turkish President Recep Erdoğan, including the decline of the Turkish lira and the effects of the failed coup d'état in 2016. close
