Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE), speaking on the chamber floor, said that it would be “a very, very, very bad idea to fire the attorney general because he’s not executing his job as a political hack,” adding, “That is not the job of the attorney general.” Senator Sasse also cautioned his colleagues against speaking about the future of Mr. Sessions. His comments came after President Trump renewed his criticism of the attorney general for his recusal in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Senator Sasse went on to say he would have difficulty voting to confirm a successor if Mr. Sessions were “fired for acting honorably and for being faithful to the rule of law.” close
