Defense Secretary James Mattis and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair General Joseph Dunford held a joint press conference at the Pentagon. They spoke about the fiscal year 2019 National Defense Authorization Act and goals for the Defense Department. The two military leaders took questions on a range of issues, including military exercises on the Korean Peninsula, troop levels in Afghanistan and Iraq, the fight against ISIS and al-Qaida, and the NATO military alliance. At the beginning of the briefing, Secretary Mattis called the late Senator John McCain (R-AZ) a “great patriot” and “a man who represented all the ideals America stands for.” close
