In 1967, President Lyndon Johnson established a commission headed by Illinois Governor Otto Kerner to study the causes of recent outbreaks of urban violence and to recommend ways to prevent future incidents. Former U.S. Senator and Kerner Commission member Fred Harris talked about the origins of the commission and the impact of the Kerner Report 50 years after its release. The University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs hosted this event. close
