Deputy Interior Secretary David Bernhardt discussed implementation of the Endangered Species Act at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, DC. He talked about the ways to improve the implementation process, producing the best conservation results, and creating more transparency within the legislation. Some of the proposed changes included new rules when listing threatened species and eliminating some language around whether a certain species should be protected or not. The public has until September 24, 2018 to comment on changes to the ESA before President Trump’s administration moves to finalize the rules. close
