Sydney Iaukea, author of, The Queen and I: A Story of Dispossessions and Reconnections in Hawaii, used Curtis Iaukea’s memoires to explore the life of the Kingdom of Hawaii’s last ruling monarch, Queen Lili’uokalani. Ms. Iaukea is a decedent of Curtis Iaukea who served as business manager and private secretary to the Queen.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2018 LCV Cities Tour” in Hawaii from August 14-26, 2018, to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Charter Spectrum cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
