The Supreme Court heard oral argument in Mount Lemmon Fire District v. Guido, a case concerning age discrimination. Two former firefighters with the Mount Lemmon Fire District in Arizona filed suit after they were laid off in 2009 due to a budget shortfall. At the time of the layoff, the two were 46 and 54 years of age, respectively. They filed a complaint with the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission claiming age discrimination. The commission found “reasonable cause” for legal action. The men in federal court argued age discrimination under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
