The Senate Armed Services Committee held a confirmation hearing on the nominations of Army Gen. Robert Abrams to be commander of the U.N. Command, the Combined Forces Command and the U.S. Forces in Korea as well as Navy Vice Adm. Craig Faller to lead U.S. Southern Command. Senators asked questions on a wide range of issues, including troop levels on the Korean Peninsula, military options for Venezuela and confronting China and Russia. Senators were also concerned with the illicit importation of fentanyl from China and implored Gen. Abrams to prioritize addressing the issue. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) questioned Vice Adm. Faller on reports of his relationship with defense contractor Leonard Glenn Francis, who has confessed to bribing numerous Navy officers. Investigations by the Justice Department and Navy found no wrongdoing by Vice Adm. Faller. close
