President Trump chaired a briefing of the U.N. Security Council during the 2018 General Assembly week at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. The focus of the briefing was on nuclear non-proliferation, specifically Iran’s nuclear arsenal. President Trump asserted Iran had been a bad actor, continuing to pursue the building of weapons of mass destruction and threatened the country with a fresh round of sanctions. Representatives of the 14 other members of the Security Council spoke out against U.S. action toward Iran and criticized the U.S.'s unilateral withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), better known as the Iran Nuclear Deal, saying doing so reduced stability in the Middle East and around the globe. close
