Senator Hirono (D-HI), speaking on the chamber floor, said she would have offered those same remarks in the Senate Judiciary meeting that took place earlier in the day had she not walked out in protest of the “perfunctory and dismissive way” Committee Chair Chuck Grassley (R-IA) treated Democrats. In her remarks, she said she was in disbelief the committee voted on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination, after what she said was genuine testimony from Professor Christine Blasey Ford, as well as the testimony from Judge Kavanaugh in which she said he “refused to give straight answers.” close
