The Senate Finance Committee considered the nomination of Andrew Saul to head the Social Security Administration. Mr. Saul, a former chair of the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board during the George W. Bush and Obama administrations, answered questions about a number of operational challenges facing the SSA and the approaches he plans to take in solving some of the agency’s ongoing problems, including backlogs at many of its field offices. Both the committee chair, Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), and its ranking member, Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), said they would support Mr. Saul’s nomination. close
