Justice Department officials announced charges of hacking against seven Russian military intelligence officers. The operatives are accused of breaking into databases of American, Canadian, and European anti-doping agencies in hopes of releasing information on athletes prior to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Members of the Russian team were barred from participating there after anti-doping officials found Russian athletes illegally used performance-enhancing drugs at the 2014 Winter Olympics. The director general of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police also participated in the press conference, noting Canadian officials were continuing their investigation into hacking by Russians as well. close
