In the East Room of the White House, Cabinet secretaries, members of Congress, and private industry executives gathered to see President Trump sign the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act, a bill package that authorized nearly $8 billion to combat the U.S. opioid epidemic. Before signing the bill, both first lady Melania Trump and the president spoke about suspicious packages sent to former President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, the CNN studios in New York City, current and former government officials, and billionaire investor and philanthropist George Soros. President Trump said the safety of the American people is his highest priority, and that “acts or threats of political violence of any kind have no place in the United States of America.” close
