Professor Shon Hopwood talked about his efforts toward criminal justice reform. More specifically he discussed a House-passed prison reform bill, the First Step Act, that would reduce mandatory minimum sentences for some federal offenses and expand rehabilitation services. Whether the bill, which President Trump supports, would be brought up for a vote in the Senate before the end of the 115th Congress, was unknown.

Shon Hopwood earlier in his life was sentenced to 12 years in prison for bank robberies. While there he studied law and wrote legal briefs for other prisoners. close
