Veterans Affairs Acting Deputy Secretary James Byrne testified about modernizing the agency’s appeals process before the House Veterans' Affairs Committee. He was joined by several VA officials involved in improving the appeals process and ensuring their department was ready to fully implement the Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act, which was set to take effect in February 2019. Elizabeth Curda from the Government Accountability Office also participated in the hearing and shared her observations of the VA’s progress. She made recommendations for what she thought should be done to improve the new appeals system’s implementation. close
