The Senate by voice vote passed a short-term spending bill to fund the government through February 8, 2019. Members also voted in favor of limiting debate on Joseph Maguire’s nomination to be director of the National Counterterrorism Center. Senators Coons (D-DE), Booker (D-NJ) and Flake (R-AZ) tried to bring up a bipartisan bill to protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller, but Republicans objected.

At approximately 9:40 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, senators and staff can faintly be heard singing Christmas carols during a vote on a motion to instruct the sergeant at arms to request the attendance of senators. close
