The 116th Congress opened in January 2019 with many senators and representatives new to Capitol Hill. For the first time, there are over 100 women in the House. This is a 1949 educational film that explains how Capitol Hill worked during the 80th Congress, which included only eight women. The narrator traces the progress of the Agricultural Act of 1948 through committees, House and Senate compromise, and the signature of President Harry Truman that made the bill a law. close
