Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said the president’s speech the previous evening falsely claimed there was a crisis on the border with “a rehash of spurious arguments and misleading statistics.” Senator Schumer said border crossings have been declining for 20 years, most heroin enters the U.S. through legal ports of entry, and nearly all suspected terrorists entering the U.S. do so through the airports. He went on to talk about the impact of the shutdown and said the Senate should take up House-passed spending legislation to re-open the government. close
