The Pentagon’s chief financial officer, David Norquist, outlined for reporters and defense experts the results of the agency’s first-ever department-wide audit. The 2018 review was conducted by 1,200 auditors who visited 900 sites across the military branches and cost $1 billion. Mr. Norquist said the Pentagon would continue to audit the agency annually. Congress passed a law in 1990 requiring the audit. Dov Zakheim, a former comptroller who moderated the event, noted it took until 2018 to conclude the review. According to news reports, the Pentagon has $2.7 trillion in assets. Mr. Norquist said the agency is double the worth of Apple, Wal-mart, and the state of California combined. close
