As a partial government shutdown over wall funding neared three weeks, President Trump departed from the White House to travel to McAllen, Texas, in an effort to highlight what the administration has deemed a humanitarian and national security crisis at the southern border. Before boarding Marine One, the president told reporters that he would “definitely” declare a national emergency to build the wall if the two sides could not agree on money for the wall. He also refuted claims by House and Senate Democratic leaders that he had stormed out of a meeting on the government shutdown the previous day. close
