The German Marshall Fund held a discussion on American exceptionalism and the changing role of American foreign policy. Its genesis was an Atlantic article penned by Jake Sullivan, the former national security adviser to former Vice President Biden. Mr. Sullivan talked about why he wrote the article and made a case for a rejection of President Trump’s “America First” approach to foreign policy. Washington Free Beacon founder Matthew Continetti also spoke about the changing nature of foreign policy in conservative circles, particularly following the deaths of stalwarts like columnist Charles Krauthammer and Senator John McCain (R-AZ). close
