The Washington Center held a discussion on legislative priorities of the 116th Congress, which was split between a Democratic-controlled House and a Republican-led Senate. Two former House members from Virginia, Tom Davis (R) and Jim Moran (D), talked about their observations of the first two weeks of the new Congress and about its prospects for ending a partial government down, which at the time had become the longest one in history. Also discussed was the Trump administration’s relationship with congressional leaders Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and how it would affect legislative priorities in 2019 and into the 2020 election. close
